Note: This Article Applies to: Wireless products

Preparations:

Please connect a computer to TP-Link router by cable and connect a laptop/PC/phone to TP-Link router by wireless connection.

It’s recommended to close all applications on the accompanying client that occupy network resources other than the Speedtest tool.

Application program inSSIDer and Iperf, the tools used for network quality assessment reference, must be installed in advance

Restore the router to factory setting.

Step I. Identify environmental factors.

  1. Identify router location factors:
  1. The correct placement, your accompanying device should be positioned as high as the router’s antenna and aligned.

* Do not place your router on the ground during testing because it will affect wireless performance.

  1. The wrong placement:
  1. The accompanying device is not aligned with the router's antenna
  2. Antenna polarization direction is inconsistent;
  3. The accompanying device is too close to the router;
  4. The height of the accompanying equipment is inconsistent with that of the router's antenna

  1. Identify the source of interference in the test environment:
  1. Open the inSSIDer tool which is installed in your accompanying device in advance.
  2. The signal in the red circle is the interference signal;ta

  1. Identify test tool parameters setting factors
  1. We take Iperf as the test tool, open the tool firstly
  2. Check that the Iperf command is correct

Conclusion: By reviewing the test tool parameter Setting, it is concluded that TCP can use the default configuration, while UDP cannot use the default configuration.

Step II. Comparison test.

  1. Your accompanying device should be in the same position and height as the test router and the competing router.
  2. You must use the same accompanying device to connect to each router and test alternately.
  3. When testing alternately, all router wireless parameters should be consistent.
  4. Before testing, the router must turn off other functions that may take up CPU resource, such as USB, dial-up connections;
  5. Ensure that wireless scanning tools such as INSSIDER on the client are not running;

  1. The configuration of the wireless parameters is shown below:
  2. Output the configuration profile: conf.bin
  3. Record data for the entire comparison test process

  1. Follow these steps to get the network card information,

Path: Control panel -> network and Internet -> network connection

Double-click the wireless card and select properties

* The problem of periodic scanning channel of accompanying device needs to be checked

From this table, you can compare your accompanying device with standard specification:

Step III. Low performance.

The following is an example of a low rate:

  1. 2.4GHz Wireless configuration
  1. Open the inSSIDer from your accompanying device and you can collect the information from the tool:
  2. Channel: 10
  3. Negotiating speed: 65Mbps
  4. RSSI: -85dBm
  5. The associated BSSID: 00:11:22:33:44:55
  6. Encryption: WPA2 PSK-AES

  1. Wireless package capture
  1. Set the parameters as following:
  2. RTS Threshold:2347 (When there is less interference)
  3. Short GI: Enable
  4. WMM: Enable
  5. TxBF: Enable
  6. ATF: Unable (This function can be turned on when multiple clients are present)
  7. Turn on Sniffer and grab packets on the appropriate channel;
  8. Record the Beacon Frame and Probe Response package;

  1. 5GHz Wireless configuration
  1. Open the inSSIDer from your accompanying device and you can collect the information from the tool:
  2. Channel: 10
  3. Negotiating speed: 135Mbps
  4. RSSI: -85dBm
  5. The associated BSSID: 00:11:22:33:44:55
  6. Encryption: WPA2 PSK-AES

  1. Wireless package capture
  1. Set the parameters as following:
  2. RTS Threshold:2347 When there is less interference
  3. Short GI: Enable
  4. WMM: Enable
  5. TxBF: Enable
  6. ATF: Unable (This function can be turned on when multiple clients are present)
  7. MU-MIMO: Unable (This function can be turned on when multiple clients are present)
  8. Turn on Sniffer and grab packets on the appropriate channel
  9. Record the Beacon Frame and Probe Response package

Step IV. Unstable performance

The following is an example of an unstable rate:

  1. WDS off by default

When the WDS function is turned on, it causes performance instability, so the WDS function needs to be turned off by default

  1. Client: MEIZU NOTE 5 / Operation system: Android 8.0;
  2. Open the inSSIDer which is installed in advance on your accompanying device;
  3. Check if the WDS function is off, if not, turn it off and save the router's current configuration file
  4. Turn on the inSSIDer and scan the current interference signal
  5. Turn on Sniffer and grab packets on the appropriate channel
  6. Open the phone client and connect the router
  7. Use the NETWORK ANALYZE tool to record the current connection status
  8. Test network traffic using ixChariot /Iperf

9. The phone disconnects and turns off the sniffer

Step 5. Feedback above questions to Ticket system
